They have tried iPhone X Jet Black before

@laobaiTD is a popular user on Twitter who regularly shares images of old prototypes for Apple products. From Apple Pencils, Airpod, and even Smartwatches, this March 13 is the day he tweets about an iPhone X in Jet Black Finish. The photos are taken from various angles and compared side-by-side with space gray version released in the market.

The jet black boasts a beautiful finish with reduced gloss compared to the space grey, with the illusion of sucking light instead of reflecting it. Units with this color is also slightly bigger than the space grey. The Apple logo is almost inscrutable from the color and can only be seen in a tilted angle at low lighting.

About the iPhone X Smartphone

iPhone X was once a premium line among the Apple series and is currently sold as a refurbished product. It was one of the first smartphone series to introduce the OLED screen. It also boasts a dual-lens TrueDepth camera array. iPhone X is one of the few phones that can determine your fingers’ pressure with 3D Touch. This creates a brand new shortcut and ‘hotkeys’ based on your finger’s gestures instead of opening the icons.

iPhone already had its History with Jet Black

The iPhone 7 jet black was extremely popular in the market and was hard to acquire with its high demand and low supply. Unfortunately, there were notable issues concerning its durability.

Apple themselves cautioned in the footnotes of the tech specs documents. Unfortunately, the footnote links are no longer available with Apple updating its webpage. Here is the exact message of Apple:

The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”

The glossy black finish had a wonderful aesthetic look, but scratches stand out easily in its design. The scratches stand out after scrutiny or when the phone hits the light at a certain angle.

An article from 9to5Mac shows the iPhone 7 jet black after a year of use. The article says that surface scratches could felt with your fingernails along with the tiny nicks visible in the first few days. Fingerprints also easily mark at the back of the smartphone.

The iPhone X Jet Black might be a beautiful color that gets a lot of interest from the market. However, there was a reason why Apple decided to discontinue the series. Jet-black is warned to be less durable and scratch-prone in usage. This leaked image would therefore remain as a prototype design never to be released in the market.
