Samsung gears up for its second big product launch of the year, as they sent out invites to a second “Unpacked” event that the company will broadcast at 7 a.m. PT on March 17.

Called the “Galaxy Awesome Unpacked,” the South Korean electronics giant is expected to announce the latest of its affordable Galaxy A series of smartphones.

The upcoming event, as Samsung described, will explain how the company is “bringing Awesome to everyone.”

While the invite image and teaser video did not include generic silhouettes of the products, a wide range of leaks beamed up the chances of unearthing the Samsung A52 5G and A72 models.

Latest Galaxy A Series

Many speculate that the event will finally introduce the Galaxy A52 (5G) and A72 devices – the first of the mid-range phones to have high refresh rate Super AMOLED Infinity-O displays with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 5.

According to an exclusive report from Sam Mobile, both the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 will have a 90Hz display, making the user experience a lot smoother.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy A52 (5G) will have a 120Hz display that was almost exclusive to Samsung’s flagship phones in the past.

Both the A52 and A72 will have the Snapdragon 720G processor, while the 5G variants will have the Snapdragon 750G processor.

All models will come with Android 11 and probably with version 3.1 of One UI, as well as 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB storage, and a microSD card slot.

The leaked marketing material first revealed on Voice confirms that the A52 will have a 6.5-inch screen, and the A72 will have a 6.7-inch screen, but the details are yet to be officially confirmed by Samsung.

The A52 (5G) is also rumored to have a 64MP main rear camera, a 5MP depth camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, a 32MP front-facing camera, an optical image stabilization, a 4,500 mAh battery with 25W super-fast charging support, and an on-screen fingerprint sensor.

There is also a good chance that the 5G model will receive monthly security updates just like Samsung’s higher-end phones, as the A52 (5G) appears in the monthly update cycle of the security update page.

Highlighting Budget Phones

Samsung seems to be following the trend found across the mobile industry when it decided to give the spotlight to its less expensive phones.

According to a report from AP, Samsung Electronics America Vice President of Product Management Drew Blackard said in an interview that the company is trying to make its devices more affordable to consumers struggling to make ends meet.

In September 2020, Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE for $700, which is $300 less than its S20 counterpart.

Samsung then announced in January 2021 that the new Galaxy S21 models would cost $200 less than the S20 models from a year earlier.

The move is believed to be because of the decrease in component costs and the recognition that the coronavirus pandemic made it harder to convince people to spend $1,000 for a phone.
