Google Now Lets Users Remove Their PII From Search Results

Google has previously teased a tool allowing users to remove their Search results with their personally identifiable information (PII) and other data during the I/O 2022 in May.

Recently, the search engine giant has officially introduced it to Android users. The so-called feature can be found on the “Results About You” menu once you click your display picture on the Google app.

From there, you can now start removing your Search results containing your PII.

This tool can help you remove search results easily, along with your personal information such as phone number and address.

According to a report by Engadget on Wednesday, Sept. 21, you can tap the three-dot menu at the top right corner of your screen while browsing.

You will notice that there’s no “About this result” panel anymore that will open upon clicking the menu item. Instead, a new “Remove result” option will pop out below the screen.

Once you’re there, a dialog containing a message about a request review will appear.

The particular menu item “Results about you” is where you can monitor the request. If you want to see if there’s progress on your requests, you can go to either of the three filters: Approved > “In Progress” > All requests.

Additionally, XDA Developers wrote that a “Why would you like to remove this result?” page would be your guide in case you want to remove the Search results and your other personal information attached to it.

“It’s important to note that when we receive removal requests, we will evaluate all content on the web page to ensure that we’re not limiting the availability of other information that is broadly useful, for instance in news articles. And of course, removing contact information from Google Search doesn’t remove it from the web, which is why you may wish to contact the hosting site directly, if you’re comfortable doing so,” Google previously explained how the new Search tool works.

Is the New Search Result Tool Available to All Users?

As 9to5Google indicates in its report earlier this week, the feature is currently running in beta. Only a few users based in the US and Europe are allowed to access it.

In the next few days, it is expected that Google will make it available to all Android devices.

In other news, Tech Zone Daily revealed that TikTok remains to be a threat to Google. As we know, the video-sharing platform showcases many clips and trends in the community, but that’s not all about its capability.

The report says that the app has become a substitute for the Google Search engine. Instead of browsing the open web and seeking answers on the search results, many young people go to TikTok to find the answers to their questions.
